Orifice Tube

  1. Using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment, remove refrigerant from A/C system. See RECOVERY, EVACUATING & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove evaporator line retaining bolt from evaporator case. Disconnect evaporator line from accumulator. See Fig 1. Remove as much of the impacted residue as possible. Using Orifice Tube Remover and Installer (J-26549E), and a heat gun if necessary, remove orifice tube.
    NOTE: If applying heat, use the Orifice Tube Remover in order to grip the expansion tube. Use a turning motion along with a push-pull motion to loosen the impacted expansion tube and remove.
  2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install shorter screen end of orifice tube toward evaporator. Coat orifice tube O-ring with refrigerant oil prior to installation. Evacuate and recharge A/C system.
