WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 2002 Chevrolet Impala, 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and 2001 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If door system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DOOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing door system diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Verify fault is present. If system does not operate correctly, go to next step. If system operates correctly, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Using scan tool, observe DOOR UNLOCK parameter in BCM data list. Command driver door lock switch to UNLOCK position. Command passenger door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If scan tool does not indicate ACTIVE for both switches, go to next step. If scan tool indicates ACTIVE for both switches, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect appropriate door lock switch harness connectors. It may be necessary to remove door trim panel for access to door lock switch harness connectors. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Using scan tool, observe DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. Connect a fused 3-amp jumper wire between appropriate door lock switch 2-pin harness connector Tan wire terminal and appropriate door lock switch 4-pin harness connector Black/White wire terminal. If scan tool does not indicate ACTIVE, go to step 7 . If scan tool indicates ACTIVE, go to step 12 .
- If all door locks are not inoperative, go to next step. If all door locks are inoperative, go to step 8 .
- If driver door lock is inoperative, go to step 9 . If driver door lock is not inoperative, go to step 10 .
- Check for an open in Black/White wire between appropriate door lock switch 4-pin harness connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If problem was not found, go to step 11 .
- It may be necessary to remove door trim panel for access to door lock switch harness connectors. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for an open in Gray wire between appropriate door lock switch 2-pin harness connector and BCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If no problem is found, go to step 13 .
- It may be necessary to remove door trim panel for access to driver door lock switch harness connectors. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for an open in Tan wire between driver door lock switch 2-pin harness connector and BCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If no problem is found, go to step 14 .
- Check for an open in Tan wire between appropriate door lock switch 2-pin harness connector and BCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If no problem is found, go to step 14 .
- Check for an open or short to voltage in Tan wire between driver door lock switch 2-pin harness connector and BCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If no problem is found, go to step 13 .
- Check for poor connections at appropriate door lock switch harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If no problem is found, go to step 15 .
- Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If no problem is found, go to step 16 .
- Check for poor connections at appropriate door lock actuator harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 . If problem is not found, go to step 17 .
- Replace appropriate door lock switch. See DOOR LOCK SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Replace and program BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Replace appropriate door lock actuator. See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system in order to verify repair. If system does not operate correctly, go to step 2 . If system operates correctly, system is okay.
