Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 2002 Chevrolet Impala, 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and 2001 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If door system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DOOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing door system diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. If DTCs B3128, B3133 and B3138 are set as current DTCs, go to next step. If DTCs B3128, B3133 and B3138 are not set as current DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Activate a door lock switch to LOCK and UNLOCK positions while observing each of the manual door locks at each door. If lock function is inoperative, go to next step. If lock function operates, go to step  7 .
  4. If lock function is inoperative on driver door, go to next step. If lock function operates on driver door, go to step  6 .
  5. Check for short to voltage in Tan wire between BCM Gray 24-pin harness connector C2 terminal A12 and driver door lock actuator 2-pin harness connector C2 terminal "A". BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 . If no problem is found, go to step  8 .
  6. Check for short to voltage in Tan wires between BCM Gray 24-pin harness connector C2 terminal A6 and each door lock actuator 2-pin harness connector C2 terminal "A". BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 . If no problem is found, go to step  8 .
  7. Check for short to voltage in Gray wires between BCM Gray 24-pin harness connector C2 terminal A7 and each door lock actuator 2-pin harness connector C2 terminal "B". BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  8. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  9. Replace and program BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC as specified in CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
