Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari, 2002 Chevrolet Astro, 2001 GMC Safari, and 2001 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion pad.
  2. Install the hog rings that retain the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion pad located under the seat cushion cover. See Figure.
  3. Install the seat back cushion cover and pad to the seat cushion frame. See Figure.
  4. Install the hog rings that retain the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion frame located at the rear edge of the seat frame. See Figure.
  5. Install the J-hooks that retain the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion frame. See Figure.
    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  6. Install the bolts that retain the seat back hinges to the seat cushion frame. See Figure.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts that retain the seat back hinges to the seat cushion frame to 30 N.m (22 ft lbs).

  7. Install the right and left sides of the seat back hinge trim. Refer to Seat Back Hinge Trim Replacement - Rear Left  and Seat Back Hinge Trim Replacement - Rear Right (YC6)  .
  8. Install the bench seat and risers in the vehicle. Refer to ySeat Replacement - Rear Bench (2001)  or Seat Replacement - Rear Bench (2002)  .
