DTC P0530, P0532 & P0533: A/C Pressure Sensor (Temperature High Or Low)

NOTE:
DTC P0530 applies to 3.5L V6. DTC P0532 and P0533 applies to 4.0L V8.
- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing system check, go to next step.
- Run test with ambient air temperature more than 38°F (3°C). Turn ignition off. Verify A/C compressor has free rotation. Start engine. Place HVAC control head in off position. If A/C compressor clutch is engaged, see COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DOES NOT DISENGAGE under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If A/C compressor clutch is not engaged, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter in POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ENGINE data list. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is 0.1-4.9 volts, inspect wiring and connectors for intermittent loose wires and/or poor connections. Ensure PCM engine grounds are clean and tight. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is not 0.1-4.9 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C pressure sensor (located on discharge hose, near compressor). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is less than 0.1 volt, go to next step. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is 0.1 volt or more, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition off. Connect 3-amp. fused jumper wire between terminals "B" (Gray wire) and "C" (Red/Black wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is 4.9 volts or less, go to step 9.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Measure voltage between terminals "A" (Black wire) and "B" (Gray wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If voltage is less than 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 5 volts or more, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between ground and terminal "A" (Black wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If continuity exists, check for loose wires and poor connections at A/C pressure sensor harness connector. Repair as necessary. If wiring and connections are okay, replace A/C pressure sensor. See A/C PRESSURE SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 14. If continuity does not exist, go to step 13.
- Check for voltage between ground and terminal "B" (Gray wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Gray wire between A/C pressure sensor and terminal No. 34 (3.5L engine) or terminal No. 57 (4.0L engine) of PCM harness connector C2 (located in air filter housing). See Fig 1. Go to step 14. If voltage does not exist, check for loose wires and/or poor connections of PCM. Repair as necessary. Go to step 14. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to step 14.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity between ground and terminal "B" (Gray wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Gray wire between A/C pressure sensor and terminal No. 34 (3.5L engine) or terminal No. 57 (4.0L engine) of PCM harness connector C2. See Fig 1. Go to step 14. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal "C" (Red/Black wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Red/Black wire between A/C pressure sensor harness connector and terminal No. 27 (3.5L engine) or terminal No. 74 (4.0L engine) of PCM harness connector C2 (located in air filter housing). Go to step 14. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Red/Black wire between terminal "C" of A/C pressure sensor and terminal No. 27 (3.5L engine) or terminal No. 74 (4.0L engine) of PCM harness connector C2. If continuity exists, check for loose wires and/or poor connections of PCM. Repair as necessary. Go to step 14. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to step 14. If continuity does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Red/Black wire. Go to step 14.
- Check for voltage between ground and terminal "C" (Red/Black wire) of A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Red/Black wire between A/C pressure sensor harness connector and terminal No. 27 (3.5L engine) or terminal No. 74 (4.0L engine) of PCM harness connector C2 (located in air filter housing). See Fig 1. Go to step 14. If voltage does not exist, check for loose wires and/or poor connections of PCM. Repair as necessary. Go to step 14. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to step 14.
- Disconnect PCM. Check continuity in Black wire between terminal "A" of A/C pressure sensor harness connector and terminal No. 35 (3.5L engine) or terminal No. 14 (4.0L engine) of PCM harness connector C2. If continuity exists, check for loose wires and/or poor connections of PCM. Repair as necessary and go to next step. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Black wire. Go to next step.
- Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Operate vehicle and verify that DTCs do not reset. If DTCs reset, return to step 2. If DTCs do not reset, system is okay.
