Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation

- Install the transaxle mount.
- Install the PNP switch. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SERVICING article.
- Install the transaxle to the transmission jack.
- Use the transmission jack to raise and install the transaxle to the engine.
- Install the lower transaxle bolt (6) and the stud (1). See Figure . Tighten the bolt and the stud to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transaxle brace. See TRANSAXLE BRACE .
- Connect the VSS electrical connector.
- Remove the drive axles from the steering knuckle and the struts.
- Install the drive axles to transaxle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to transaxle. See OIL COOLER HOSE/PIPES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SERVICING article.
- Install the appropriate flywheel holder to the flywheel and install the torque converter bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the starter motor. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Install the torque converter cover. See Figure .
- Install the torque converter cover bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transaxle fluid filler tube. See Figure .
- Install the transaxle fluid filler tube bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the transmission jack from the transaxle.
- Install the frame to the vehicle. See FRAME REPLACEMENT .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the upper transaxle bolts (3, 4 and 5) and the stud (2). See Figure . Tighten the bolts and the stud to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the engine ground wires and the nuts to the studs. Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket and the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the transaxle.
- Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the transaxle and the PNP switch.
- Remove the engine support fixture. See ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE .
- Install the engine mount strut brackets to upper radiator support. See UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT .
- Install the air cleaner intake duct. See AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT .
- Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Adjust the transaxle fluid level. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.
CAUTION:
Ensure the transaxle is secured properly to the transmission jack.
