Removal (3.4L)

  1. The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is located at the top front of engine, behind power steering pump. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  2. Support the engine under the oil pan with a floor jack and a block of wood .
  3. Remove and position cruise control module aside.
  4. Remove the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts. See Fig 1 .
  5. Remove the engine mount to body nuts.
  6. Remove the engine mount.
  7. Use a 3/8 inch breaker bar to rotate the drive belt tensioner in a counterclockwise motion. Remove the accessory drive belt. See Fig 2 .
  8. Remove the power steering pump. See Fig 3 .
  9. Disconnect the CMP sensor harness connector.
  10. Remove the CMP sensor attaching bolt. Remove the CMP sensor. See Fig 4 .
  11. Inspect the sensor "O" ring for wear, cracks or leakage if the sensor is not being replaced.
