Removal (2.2L)

  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  . Remove air cleaner outlet resonator, air cleaner intake duct and vent hose from throttle body.
  2. Disconnect the vacuum pipe from the fuel pressure regulator.
  3. Remove the engine fuel supply and return pipes.
  4. Disconnect the fuel injector harness connectors. Remove the fuel rail attaching studs. See Fig 1 .
  5. CAUTION: Use care when removing the fuel rail assembly to prevent damage to the fuel injectors harness connector terminals and spray tips.
  6. Pull the fuel rail back and upward to remove the fuel injectors from the cylinder head ports.
  7. Rotate the fuel rail to position the injectors downward. Remove the fuel rail.
  8. To remove injectors from the fuel rail, remove the fuel injector retainer clip. Remove the fuel injector from the fuel rail. See Figure .
  9. Visually inspect the fuel injector to determine if the upper "O" ring was also removed.
  10. If the upper "O" ring is not removed, remove the "O" ring from the fuel rail assembly.
  11. Remove and discard the fuel injector "O" rings.
