WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2001 GMC Savana Special, 2001 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2001 GMC Savana, 2001 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2001 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If brake warning system diagnostic system description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If brake warning system description and operation has not been reviewed, go to BRAKE WARNING  under INDICATORS under OPERATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure park brake is released. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Brake warning indicator should illuminate for 3 seconds and then turn off. If brake warning indicator does not operate as specified, go to next step. If brake warning indicator operates as specified, check for intermittent or poor connections.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Select 4WAL 3 SENSOR CURRENT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES function on scan tool. If scan tool does not display DTC C0286 or any other ABS disabling DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC C0286 and any other ABS disabling DTC, diagnose and repair anti-lock brake system fault. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  4. Select 4WAL 3 SENSOR DISPLAY function on scan tool. If scan tool displays BRAKE WARNING LAMP STATUS as ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BRAKE WARNING LAMP STATUS as ON, go to step  8 .
  5. Disconnect brake pressure differential switch harness connector, which is part of EBCM, located on left frame rail near center of vehicle. If brake warning indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If brake warning indicator turns off, go to step  18 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect brake differential switch harness connector. Disconnect EBCM Black 10-pin harness connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If brake warning indicator turns off, go to step  13 .
  7. Repair short to ground in Purple wire (ABS pressure differential sensor signal circuit) between EBCM harness connector C1 terminal "H" and IPC harness connector terminal A13. After repair, go to step  19 .
  8. Disconnect park brake warning light switch harness connector. If brake warning light indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If brake warning indicator turns off, go to step  15 .
  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect IPC Black 34-pin harness connector. Connect test light between IPC harness connector terminals A13 (Tan/White wire) and B11 (Orange wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If test light remains illuminated, go to next step. If test light does not remain illuminated, go to step  14 .
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect IPC harness connector. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Check for short to ground in Light Blue wire between ignition switch harness connector terminal B5 and park brake switch harness connector. If Light Blue wire is okay, go to next step. If Light Blue wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  11. If vehicle is equipped with power brake booster fluid flow alarm (RPO Code UJ1), go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with power brake booster fluid flow alarm, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect ignition switch harness connector. Disconnect in-line harness connector C208, located under left side of instrument panel, near convenience center. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If brake warning indicator turns off, go to step  17 .
  12. Repair short to ground in Tan/White wire between IPC harness connector terminal A13, DRL control module and in-line harness connector C208. After repair, go to step  19 .
  13. Replace EBCM. Perform tire size calibration procedure. See appropriate ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE & BRAKE PRESS in ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. After repair, go to step  19 .
  14. Replace IPC. After repair, go to step  19 .
  15. Replace park brake warning light switch. After repair, go to step  19 .
  16. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to step  19 .
  17. Check for short to ground in Tan/White wire between in-line harness connector C208 terminal "C" and in-line diode D202, located near park brake switch. If Tan/White wire is okay, repair brake warning alarm as necessary (if equipped; RPO code UJ1). See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  18. Replace brake pressure differential switch. After repair, go to next step.
  19. Turn OFF the ignition for 5 seconds. Turn ON the ignition while observing the brake warning indicator. If brake warning indicator illuminates for 3 seconds and then turns OFF, system is OK. If brake warning indicator does not turn OFF, go to step  2 .
