Test C: Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Start engine. If engine oil pressure gauge displays 10-70 psi (0.7-4.9 kg/cm2 ), go to next step. If engine oil pressure gauge does not display 10-70 psi (0.7-4.9 kg/cm2 ), check for intermittent or poor connections. Repair as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect engine oil pressure gauge sensor harness connector. Start engine. If engine oil pressure gauge displays 80 psi (5.6 kg/cm2 ) or more, go to next step. If engine oil pressure gauge displays less than 80 psi (5.6 kg/cm2 ), go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect a fused (3-amp) jumper wire between ground and engine oil pressure gauge sensor harness connector Tan wire terminal. If engine oil pressure gauge does not display zero psi (0 kg/cm2 ), go to next step. If engine oil pressure gauge displays zero psi (0 kg/cm2 ), go to step  7 .
  5. Check for open, high resistance or short to voltage in Tan wire between engine oil pressure gauge sensor harness connector and IPC harness connector terminal B8. If Tan wire is okay, go to step  9 . If Tan wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  6. Check for short to ground in Tan wire between engine oil pressure gauge sensor harness connector and IPC harness connector terminal B8. If Tan wire is okay, go to step  9 . If Tan wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 . After repair, go to step  12 .
  7. Check engine oil pressure gauge sensor case ground for intermittent or poor contact. If sensor case ground is okay, go to next step. If sensor case ground is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  8. Check engine oil pressure gauge sensor connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step  10 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  9. Check IPC connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step  11 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  10. Replace engine oil pressure gauge sensor. After repair, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace IPC. After repair, go to next step.
  12. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
