Test Ab: Chime Always On

  1. If audible warnings description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If audible warnings description and operation has not been reviewed, go to AUDIBLE WARNINGS  under DESCRIPTION and AUDIBLE WARNINGS  under OPERATION.
  2. If no indicators illuminate when chime sounds, go to next step. If any indicators illuminate when chime sounds, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Open driver's door. If chime activates, go to next step. If chime does not activate, problem may be intermittent. Try to recreate fault by wiggling wiring and connectors. Check for faulty connections at all connectors that may be causing intermittent condition.
  4. With key in ignition switch, disconnect driver's door jamb switch. If chime does not stop, go to next step. If chime stops, go to step  11 .
  5. Disconnect in-line harness connector C200, located at base of steering column. See Figure . With driver's door closed, check for short to ground in Tan wire between driver's door jamb switch and convenience center and between convenience center and Multifunction Alarm Module (MFAM) harness connector C1 terminal C1. See Fig 1 . If Tan wire is okay, go to next step. If Tan wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .

  6. With key removed from ignition, check continuity between in-line harness connector C200 terminals B3 (Light Green wire) and B4 (Tan wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step  9 .
  7. Check for short to ground in Light Green wire between in-line harness connector C200 terminal B3 and MFAM harness connector C1 terminal C1. If Light Green wire is okay, go to next step. If Light Green wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  8. Replace MFAM. After repair, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace ignition key alarm switch. After repair, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace driver's door jamb switch. After repair, go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
