Removal & Installation: Compressor: Removal

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove the air cleaner. See Figure. Remove the upper half of the fan shroud. See Figure.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C clutch. Remove the drive belt. Remove the engine cover. See Figure. Remove the oil filler tube.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C compressor high pressure cutoff switch. See Figure. Remove the compressor hose assembly bolt from the compressor. Remove the compressor hose assembly seal washers. Remove the compressor brace bolt. Remove the compressor bolts. Remove the compressor brace. See Figure.
  4. Remove the compressor from the vehicle. If replacing the A/C compressor, drain and measure as much of the oil from the removed compressor as possible.
