Removal & Installation: Compressor: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: NEW G.M. compressors are shipped without oil.
  1. Add oil to the compressor. See SPECIFICATIONS . Install the compressor to the vehicle. Install the compressor brace.
  2. Install the compressor bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the compressor hose assembly seal washers. Install the manifold bolt. Tighten to specification.
  3. Install the compressor hose assembly bolt to the compressor. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect the electrical connector to the A/C compressor high pressure cutoff switch. Install the oil filler tube.
  4. Install the drive belt. Install the engine cover. Connect the electrical connectors to the coil. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING.
  5. Leak test the fittings of the component. See LEAK TESTING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Install the upper half of the fan shroud. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the air cleaner.
