Diagnostic Aids

A scan tool should indicate a vehicle speed whenever drive wheels are turning at a speed of more than 3 MPH (5 km/h). DTC P0500 can be falsely set if engine is brake-torqued in gear. Disregard DTC P0500 if the DTC sets when drive wheels are not turning.

An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a fault in VSS sensor electrical circuit. Check wiring harness and related components for any of the following conditions:

Repair any electrical circuit faults found. Information included in freeze frame data can be useful in determining vehicle operating conditions when DTC first set.
