Test G: Blower Motor Noise Diagnosis

NOTE:
The manufacturer does not separate testing by "heater only" or "air conditioned" vehicles. References to air conditioning operations or repairs may not apply to vehicles without air conditioning. References to some components also may not apply to vehicles without air conditioning.
NOTE:
Definition: Noise originating from the blower motor.
- Sit inside the vehicle. Close the vehicle doors and windows. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. Cycle the blower motor through all of the speeds and modes in order to determine where and when the noise occurs. Is a noise evident during the blower operation? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 9.
- Does the noise vary with the blower speed? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 9.
- Inspect for excessive vibration at each blower motor speed by feeling the blower case. Is excess vibration present? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 9.
- Remove the blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect the blower motor for deposits of foreign material. Did you find any foreign material on the blower motor? If so, go to step 6. If not, go to next step.
- Inspect the blower motor for the following conditions:
- Cracked Blades
- A Loose Impeller Retainer
- Improper Impeller Alignment
- Remove the foreign material. After repairs are complete, go to step 9.
- Replace the blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 9.
- Install the blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 9.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 1.
