Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
The High Voltage Disabling procedure will perform the following tasks:
  • Identify how to disable high voltage.
  • Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
  • Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.

Failure to follow the procedures exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.
  1. Ignition OFF, disable the high voltage at the drive motor generator battery. Refer to High Voltage Disabling .
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the drive motor generator battery control module.
  3. Ignition OFF, connect the 12 V battery
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ circuit terminals listed below and ground:
    • Terminal 67
    • Terminal 68
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuits for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  5. Connect the X1 harness connector at the drive motor generator battery control module.
  6. Disconnect the X456 inline harness connector at the side of the drive motor generator battery assembly.
  7. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal G and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the drive motor generator battery control module.
  8. Ignition ON, Test for 9-15 V between low reference circuit terminal G and the B+ circuit terminal M.
    • If not within the specified range, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the drive motor generator battery control module.
  9. Ignition ON, test for 9-15 V between the low reference circuit terminal G and the fan speed control signal circuit terminal C.
    • If not within the specified range, test the fan speed control signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the drive motor generator battery control module.
  10. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the low reference circuit terminal G and the fan feedback signal circuit terminal L.
    • If not within the specified range, test the fan feedback signal circuit fro a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the drive motor generator battery control module.
  11. If all circuits test normal, replace the drive motor generator battery assembly.
