Installation Procedure

  1. Using the J 36017  install the NEW valve seal. See Special Tools . Fully seat the seal onto the valve guide.

  2. Install the valve spring.

  3. Install the valve spring retainer.
  4. Compress the valve spring using the J 43649  . See Special Tools .
  5. Install the valve spring keepers.

  6. Disconnect the air hose from the adapter.
  7. Remove the air hose adapter from the spark plug hole.

  8. Remove the J 43649  from the cylinder head. See Special Tools .
  9. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .

  10. Install the camshaft roller followers.
  11. Install the camshaft. Refer to Intake Camshaft and Valve Lifter Replacement  or Exhaust Camshaft and Valve Lifter Replacement .
  12. If used, remove the J 43653  . See Special Tools .
  13. If removed, install the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (LZ4) or Starter Replacement (LE5/LAT) or Starter Replacement (LY7) .
