Installation Procedure

  1. Using the J 36017  install the NEW valve seal. Fully seat the seal onto the valve guide.

  2. Install the valve spring.

  3. Install the valve spring retainer.
  4. Compress the valve spring using the J 43649  . See Special Tools .
  5. Install the valve spring keepers.

  6. Disconnect the air hose from the adapter.
  7. Remove the air hose adapter from the spark plug hole.

  8. Remove the J 43649  from the cylinder head. See Special Tools .
  9. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .

  10. Install the camshaft roller followers.
  11. Install the camshaft. Refer to Intake Camshaft and Lifter Replacement  or Exhaust Camshaft and Lifter Replacement .
  12. If used, remove the J 43653  .
  13. If removed, install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (2.4L (LAT)) .
