Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2002 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) is a permanent memory that is part of ECM. EEPROM cannot be replaced. EEPROM contains program and calibration information that PCM uses to control powertrain. If ECM is replaced, ensure NEW ECM software/calibration is correct and most recent version for vehicle. EEPROM must be programmed when NEW ECM is installed. Program EEPROM using latest software for that specific vehicle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - DOMESTIC article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
