Installation Procedure

  1. Make sure the rear main seal bore is free from debris. If a sealer is present, it must be removed to assure proper installation of the rear main seal.

  3. Lubricate the outer diameter of the rear main seal with clean engine oil.
  4. Using the J 42067  , press the new seal into the housing until fully seated. See Special Tools . The installer will control the depth of the seal installation.

  6. Install the flywheel/flexplate.
  7. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  8. Install new flywheel bolts.
  9. Install the J 43653  . See Special Tools .
  10. Tighten the flywheel bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the flywheel bolts L61 to 53 N.m (39 lb ft) plus 25 degrees.

  11. Remove the J 43653  . See Special Tools .
  12. If the vehicle is equipped with a manual transaxle, install the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .
  13. Install the transaxle assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement for the 4T45-E transaxle or Transmission Replacement for the Getrag 5 speed transmission.
