Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver head impact air bag module connector, located above left rear corner of headliner. See Figure. If connector is damaged or corroded, go to next step. If connector is okay, go to step  4.
  3. If harness side of connector is damaged, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  11. If head impact air bag module side of connector is damaged, go to step  10.
  4. Turn ignition off. Install SIR Driver/Passenger Load Tool (SA9409Z-A) to head impact air bag module harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for SIR DTC's. If DTC B0041 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B0041 is not retrieved, go to step  10.
NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (SA911141NE) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (SA9206Z) when performing electrical tests.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove load tool from harness connector. Disconnect SDM connector. See Figure. Measure resistance of Brown wire between SDM connector terminal A5 and head impact air bag module harness connector terminal "A". If resistance is one ohm or less, go to step  7. If resistance is more than one ohm, go to next step.
  6. Repair open or high resistance in circuit 2137. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  11.
  7. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between SDM connector terminal A6 and head impact air bag harness connector terminal "B". If resistance is one ohm or less, go to step  9. If resistance is more than one ohm, go to next step.
  8. Repair open or high resistance in circuit 2138. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  11.
  9. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  11.
  10. Replace driver head impact air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  11. Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure that all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear all SIR DTC's. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
