Disabling System

WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury could result. Read and follow safety precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
NOTE: When AIR BAG fuse is removed and ignition is on, AIR BAG warning light will be on. This does not indicate a system malfunction.
  1. Turn steering wheel to place vehicle wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition off.
  2. Remove right-side instrument panel end cover to access fuse block. Remove AIR BAG fuse from fuse block. Wait one minute. Remove driver-side instrument panel knee bolster. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip from driver-side air bag module connector, located at base of steering column and disconnect connector. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove CPA clip from passenger-side air bag connector, located to right of steering column and disconnect connector. See Fig 2. Remove CPA clip and disconnect driver side impact air bag module connector, located under driver seat. See Fig 3.
