Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the front tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Fig 1: Identifying Tie Rod Inner Jam Nut

    IMPORTANT: Mark the location of the jam nut for installation.
  4. Loosen the tie rod inner jam nut.

    IMPORTANT: Hold the ball stud to prevent turning during removal of the nut.
  6. Remove the tie rod to knuckle nut. Discard the nut.

    NOTE: Do not free the ball stud by using a pickle fork or a wedge-type tool. Damage to the seal or bushing may result.
  8. Use the SA91100C  to separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.

  10. Remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.
