Removal & Installation (Driver-side)

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn steering wheel to gain access to holes on rear of steering wheel. Insert screwdriver into each hole and push leaf spring to release spring on driver-side air bag module retaining pins. See Fig 1. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees to access remaining leaf springs.
  3. Pull air bag module away from steering wheel. Disconnect driver-side air bag wire harness from clips on air bag module and steering wheel. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect Yellow 2-pin connector from driver-side air bag module. Remove driver-side air bag module.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure that wire harness is not pinched when installing driver-side air bag module on steering wheel and that leaf springs latch securely on all retaining pins. Activate air bag system.
