Diagnostic Procedure

- If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Check Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) for correct operation. If IPC is working correctly, go to next step. If IPC is not working correctly, diagnose IPC.
- Turn ignition off. Check AIR BAG warning light when turning ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light flashes 7 times, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash 7 times, go to step 10.
- Install scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, request ignition voltage parameter in SIR data list. If ignition voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If ignition voltage is 9 volts or less, go to step 6.
- If ignition voltage is more than 16 volts, inspect vehicle electrical system. Repair as necessary. Go to step 14. If ignition voltage is 16 volts or less, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200) with Connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616A), inspect ignition voltage feed circuit 1139 for an open or high resistance between fuse block and SDM. If open or high resistance is found, repair circuit. Go to step 14. If circuit 1139 is okay, go to next step.
- Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200) with Connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616A), inspect voltage feed circuit from battery to air bag fuse for open or high resistance. If open or high resistance is found, repair circuit. Go to step 14. If open or high resistance is not found, go to next step.
- Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200) with Connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616A), check SDM ground circuit 1751 for open or high resistance. Press MIN MAX button on DMM. Connect leads of DMM to appropriate terminals. If low or no resistance is not indicated, repair open or high resistance in circuit 1751. Go to step 14. If low or no resistance is indicated, go to next step.
- Disconnect SDM connector from SDM. See Figure. If SDM connector terminals show signs of corrosion, poor connections or other damage, go to step 12. If SDM connector is okay, go to step 13.
- Disconnect IPC from IPC connector. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If IPC connector terminals show signs of corrosion, damage or poor connections, repair connector as necessary. Go to step 14. If IPC connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster. Go to step 14.
- Replace SDM connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 14.
- Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all SIR system components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
