Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the door trim panel, if equipped. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - DOOR  .
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the power door lock motor and the power window regulator, if equipped.
  3. Use J 36604 in order to compress the hinge spring.
  4. Remove the hinge pin clips:
    1. Spread the clip and move the clip above the recess in the pin.
    2. As the pin is removed, the clip will ride on and fall free of the pin.

  5. Use a soft-faced hammer and locking pliers in order to remove the lower hinge pin.
  6. Install a temporary bolt through the lower hinge in order to hold the door in place while removing the upper hinge pin.
  7. Remove the hinge pin from the upper hinge pin hole.
  8. Remove the temporary bolt from the lower hinge pin hole.
  9. With an assistant, remove the door from the vehicle.
