Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Buick Regal and 2003 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position the I/P assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Position the wiring harness to the I/P assembly.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the bolts to the upper I/P trim pad.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  4. Install the bolts to the left end of the I/P trim pad.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the bolts to the center and to the lower I/P assembly.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  6. Install the bolts to the right end of the I/P assembly.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.
  8. Connect the electrical connector to the I/P assembly compartment lamp.
  9. Install the compartment lamp into the I/P.

  10. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to COMPARTMENT REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P)  .
  11. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems - Manual or to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  12. Install the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  13. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT  .
  14. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  15. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  16. Install the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE BEZEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER  .
  17. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY  .
  18. Install the front carpet retainers. Refer to CARPET RETAINER REPLACEMENT - FRONT in Interior Trim.
  19. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the I/P and install the bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  20. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to HOOD LATCH RELEASE HANDLE REPLACEMENT in Body Front End.
  21. Install the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
  22. Install the knee bolster to the I/P. Refer to KNEE BOLSTER REPLACEMENT  .
  23. Install the steering column filler. Refer to STEERING COLUMN FILLER REPLACEMENT  .
  24. Install the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - RIGHT  and to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - LEFT  .
  25. Install the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FLOOR (D06)  .
  26. Install the upper trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER  .
  27. Install the upper garnish moldings to the windshield pillar. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - WINDSHIELD PILLAR in Stationary Windows.
  28. Enable the SIR system. Refer to ACTIVATING SYSTEM in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
  29. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
