Installation Procedure

- If replacing the drive belt tensioner, lubricate the thermostat bypass upper and lower pipe assembly seals with engine coolant and install the upper and lower pipe assemblies.
- Install the drive belt tensioner.NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
- Install the drive belt tensioner bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the heater hose adapters with the heater hoses to the drive belt tensioner. Refer to HEATER HOSE REPLACEMENT - INLET (3.8L) or HEATER HOSE REPLACEMENT - OUTLET (3.8L) in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR in Generators & Regulators.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT (L36) or DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT (L67) .
- Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to COOLANT RECOVERY RESERVOIR REPLACEMENT in Engine Cooling.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM in Engine Cooling.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
