Intake Manifold Cleaning and Inspection - Lower

Tools Required 

J21882  Oil Suction Pipe Installer. See Special Tools and Equipment .

  1. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor.

  2. Remove the intake manifold coolant pipe bolt if required.
  3. Remove the intake manifold coolant pipe if required.

    IMPORTANT:

    Use GM P/N 12346139 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or equivalent to clean the intake manifold mating surfaces.

  4. Clean the intake manifold gasket mating surfaces.
  5. Clean the fuel injector bores.
  6. Inspect the threaded holes for damage.
  7. Inspect the intake manifold mating surfaces for damage.
  8. Repair or replace the intake manifold as necessary.

  9. Apply sealant GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the end of a new intake manifold coolant pipe.
  10. Install the intake manifold coolant pipe using the J 21882  .
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Install the intake manifold coolant pipe bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the intake manifold coolant pipe bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  12. Install the engine coolant temperature sensor. Apply sealer GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the coolant temperature sensor.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the engine coolant temperature sensor to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).
