Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE (SINGLE BATTERY) or BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE (AUXILIARY BATTERY) .
  2. Remove the upper radiator baffle. Refer to RADIATOR AIR BAFFLE AND DEFLECTOR REPLACEMENT-UPPER .
  3. Remove the headlamps. Refer to HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB REPLACEMENT (OLD STYLE) or HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB REPLACEMENT (NEW STYLE GMC) or HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB REPLACEMENT (NEW STYLE CHEVY) .
  4. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  6. Remove the bolts from the front end diagonal brace.
  7. Remove the front end diagonal brace.
  8. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT-LOWER and FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT-UPPER (W/O M74) or FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT-UPPER (W/M74) .

  9. Remove the tie bar to radiator brace bolts (1). Access the bolts from the rear of the upper radiator using an extension.

  10. Remove the radiator mounting bolts from the rear side of the tie bar.

  11. Remove the tie bar bolts.

  12. Remove the upper headlamp housing support screws.
  13. Remove the tie bar.
