Removal Procedure

- Remove the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
- Remove the coolant air bleed pipe. Refer to COOLANT AIR BLEED PIPE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) .
- Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (4.8L, 5.3L, AND 6.0L ENGINES)
- Remove the pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .IMPORTANT: The cylinder head bolts are NOT reusable.
- Remove the cylinder head bolts (1, 2, 3).NOTE: After removal, place the cylinder head on two wood blocks to prevent damage.
- Remove the cylinder head.
- Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
- If required, clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
