Removal (4.3L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2002 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove distributor. See DISTRIBUTOR .
  2. On models where fuel lines prevent or restrict access to knock sensor, release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  under FUEL SYSTEMS. Disconnect fuel feed and fuel return line fittings at rear of engine. See Figure. It may be necessary to loosen or remove fuel line bracket-to-bellhousing stud nut to allow enough movement of fuel lines for access to knock sensor.
  3. On all models, disconnect knock sensor harness connector. Remove knock sensor retaining bolt and knock sensor. See Figure.
