Removal (Upper - 4.3L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2002 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Loosen hose clamp on outlet side of Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. Dislodge air cleaner outlet duct from outlet side of MAF sensor. Remove air cleaner outlet duct wing nut at throttle body unit. Pivot air cleaner outlet duct/resonator upward at throttle body unit until hinge clip releases from lip on throttle body. See Figure.
  2. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect fuel feed and fuel return line fittings at rear of engine. See Figure. It may be necessary to loosen or remove fuel line bracket-to-bellhousing stud nut to allow movement of fuel lines.
  3. Remove fuel feed and fuel return line retainer nuts at fuel meter assembly. Remove fuel feed and fuel return line retainer at fuel meter assembly. Remove fuel line-to-intake manifold bracket retaining bolt. Pull fuel lines straight up from fuel meter assembly. Set fuel lines aside.
  4. Disconnect accelerator control cable from throttle lever and bracket. Disconnect cruise control cable from throttle lever and bracket (if equipped). Label and disconnect vacuum hose(s) for installation reference.
  5. Disconnect A/C compressor clutch and A/C pressure switch harness connectors (if equipped). Disconnect EGR valve harness connector. Remove engine wiring harness clip from accelerator control cable bracket. Remove accelerator control cable bracket-to-throttle body and intake manifold studs/nuts. See Figure. Remove accelerator control cable bracket with cables attached and position aside.
  6. Disconnect harness connectors from Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and control port injector module. Remove engine wiring harness clip bolt near left front corner of engine. Disconnect Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and EVAP canister purge solenoid valve harness connectors.
  7. Disconnect EVAP canister purge solenoid valve hose. Remove 2 nuts retaining engine wiring harness bracket to intake manifold studs at left rear corner of engine. Remove engine wiring harness bracket from intake manifold mounting studs. Remove engine wiring harness ground wire nut on rear of right cylinder head. Remove engine wiring harness ground wire from rear of right cylinder head.
  8. Remove engine wiring harness rear bracket nut at EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Remove engine wiring harness bracket stud. Remove engine wiring harness bracket with harness attached and position aside.
  9. Remove PCV hose from left side of engine. Remove power brake booster vacuum hose from intake manifold fitting. Remove accelerator control cable routing bracket-to-throttle body retaining nuts. See Figure.
  10. Remove accelerator control cable routing bracket. Remove upper intake manifold studs. Remove 2 front throttle body studs. Remove upper intake manifold. Remove upper intake manifold gasket and discard.
