Disabling the Park Brake Cable Automatic Adjuster

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Disconnect the park brake cable from the left and right park brake actuators.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Reposition carpet away from park brake lever.

  7. With the aid of an assistant, pull the disconnected park brake cable downward until it is fully extended and insert a rivet, drill bit or cotter key through the holes in the park brake lever mechanism as they line up. Do not overextend the cable.
