Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Do not turn the crankshaft assembly after the timing chain has been removed in order to prevent damage to the piston assemblies or the valves.

  1. Remove the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump, Pump Screen and Deflector Replacement .
  2. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
  3. Remove the camshaft sprocket and timing chain.

  5. Use the J 8433  , J 41816-2 and J 41558  in order to remove the crankshaft sprocket.

  7. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.

  9. Remove the crankshaft sprocket key (if required).
  10. Clean and inspect the timing chain and sprockets. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets Cleaning and Inspection .
