Rear Compartment Lid Release Inoperative

Rear Compartment Lid Release Inoperative

1 Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK or NEUTRAL position.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid switch.
Did the rear compartment lid release?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool command the hatch release on.
Did the rear compartment lid release?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 7

  1. With a scan tool observe the rear compartment lid release parameter in the body control module data list.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid switch.
Does the rear compartment lid release parameter change states?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid switch and battery positive.
Does the rear compartment lid release?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 19 
6 Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid switch and the battery positive circuit of the rear compartment lid switch.
Does the rear compartment lid release?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the trunk release relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 18 
8 Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay and the control circuit of the trunk release relay.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 12 
9 Momentarily connect a fused jumper across the switch side of the HTCHTRK REL relay fuse block.
Does the rear compartment lid release?
Go to Step 20  Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid latch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper across the switch side of the HTCHTRK REL relay fuse block.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid latch and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 16 
11 Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid latch and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid latch.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 15  Go to Step 17 
12 Test the control circuit of the htchtrk relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  Go to Step 15 
13 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  Go to Step 23 
14 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  Go to Step 21 
15 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  Go to Step 22 
16 Repair the open or high resistance in the control circuit of the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

17 Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  -
18 Repair the open or high resistance in the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  -
19 Repair the open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 24  -
20 Replace the HTCHTRK REL relay.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 24  -
21 Replace the rear compartment lid switch.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 24  -
22 Replace the rear compartment lid lock latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Rear Compartment Lid .

IMPORTANT: When replacing the body control module, refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

24 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
