Installation Procedure

  1. Install the following to the steering shaft:
    1. Inner race (1)
    2. Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    3. Upper bearing spring (3)
    4. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    5. Shaft lock shield (5)

    IMPORTANT: The bearing retainer must be properly seated into the groove on the steering shaft.
  3. Install a new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly.
  4. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137  to install the bearing retainer. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  5. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137  from the steering shaft assembly. See Special Tools and Equipment .

  7. Install the wave washer (1) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  8. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
