Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR (CARGO DOORS)  or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR (E54)  .
  2. Peel the water deflector away from the door. Use a soft-surfaced scraper if needed. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement  .
  3. Remove the control rods from the remote lock.
    1. Pry the anchor out of the hole.
    2. Push the clip away from the lever.
    3. Pull the rod and the clip away from the lever.
  4. Remove the upper latch screws.

  6. Remove the upper latch cover, if equipped.
  7. Remove the upper latch and the rod from the door.
  8. Remove the lower latch screws.

  10. Remove the reinforcement.
  11. Remove the lower latch and the rod from the door.
