Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable the SIR system.
  2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to IP Assembly Replacement  .
  3. Remove the inflatable restraint IP module.
  4. Remove the radio, if equipped. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  5. Remove the bolts that retain the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module to the carrier.
  6. Remove the RKE module from the carrier.
  7. Remove the heater control assembly.

  9. Remove the nuts that retain the assist handle from the passenger's side of the instrument panel.
  10. Remove the screws that retain the cluster to the instrument panel carrier.
  11. Pull the cluster from the instrument panel.

  12. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - IP Cluster  .
  13. Remove the nuts and bolts that retain the instrument panel steering column reinforcement bracket to the instrument panel carrier.
