Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  Tests the 4WD LO circuit for voltage.
  2. 3:  Tests the 4WD LO circuit for a short to voltage.
  3. 4:  Tests the 4WD LO circuit for an open or high resistance.
  4. 5:  Repairs the 4WD LO circuit for a short to voltage.

1 Was the Diagnostic System Check - Transfer Case performed? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Transfer Case

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the transfer case shift control module.
  3. Connect a DMM between the 4WD LO circuit and ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
Does the DMM indicate battery voltage?		 - Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the powertrain control module.
  3. Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
Does the DMM continue to display battery voltage?		 - Go to Step 5  Go to Step 7 
4  Test the 4WD LO circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and WIRING REPAIRS in Wiring Systems.
Was the condition found and corrected?		 - Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
5 Repair the 4WD LO circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to WIRING REPAIRS in Wiring Systems.
Is the repair complete?		 - Go to Step 8  -
6 Replace the PCM. Refer to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE for the 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engine.
Is the replacement complete?		 - Go to Step 8  -
7 Replace the transfer shift case control module. Refer to Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement .
Is the replacement complete?		 - Go to Step 8  -

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC reset?		 - Go to Step 2  System OK
