Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine. Allow engine to reach normal operation temperature. Using scan tool, monitor specific DTC information for DTC P1372. Does the DTC fail this ignition cycle? If yes, go to step  4. If no, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, observe and record FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data for this DTC. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within Conditions for Running DTC or as close to recorded FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data as possible. Does the scan tool indicate that the DTC passed? If yes, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command Time Mode "B". See PROCEDURES FOR SELECTING CRANK POSITION SENSING DECODE MODE . Start engine. Raise and support vehicle. Wiggle CKP sensor wiring harness and connector. CKP sensor is located above starter motor and has a 6-pin connector. Using scan tool, monitor specific DTC information for DTC P0386. Does the scan tool indicate that DTC P0386 failed last test? If yes, go to DTC P0386: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR "B" CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE . If no, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command Time Mode "A". See PROCEDURES FOR SELECTING CRANK POSITION SENSING DECODE MODE . Ensure engine is still idling. Wiggle CKP sensor wiring harness and connector. Using scan tool, monitor specific DTC information for DTC P0336. Does the scan tool indicate that DTC P0336 failed last test? If yes, go to DTC P0336: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE . If no, go to next step.
  6. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  2.
  7. With a scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
