Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF. Record the DTC Failure Records. Clear the DTC. Select TCC Brake Switch on the scan tool. Disconnect the TCC brake switch connector. Using the GM Terminal Test Kit (J 35616-A), install a fused jumper wire between terminals "A" and "B" of the TCC brake switch connector. Did the TCC brake switch status change from Open to Closed? If yes, go to step 5. If no, go to next step.
- Remove the IGN 1 fuse. Inspect the fuse for an open. Is the fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 6.
- Repair the ignition 1 voltage circuit (CKT 1039) of the TCC brake switch for a short to ground. After repairs, go to step 9.
- Inspect the TCC brake switch for proper adjustment. Adjust the TCC brake switch as necessary. Did the TCC brake switch require adjustment? If yes, go to step 9. If no, go to step 7.
- Test the ignition 1 voltage circuit (CKT 1039) of the TCC brake switch for an open. Test the signal circuit (CKT 420) of the TCC brake switch for an open. Did you find and correct a condition? If yes, go to step 9. If no, go to step 8.
- Replace the TCC brake switch. After repairs, go to step 9.
- Replace the PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
- To verify the repair, select DTC. Select Clear Info. Operate the vehicle under the following conditions:
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Apply and release the brake pedal.
- The PCM must receive 12 volts, brake switch closed, on the signal circuit for 2 seconds.
- Select Specific DTC.
- Enter DTC P0719.
Has the test run and passed? If yes, system is okay. If no, go to step 1.
CAUTION:
When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
NOTE:
Before clearing the DTC, use the scan tool in order to record the Failure Records. Using the Clear Info function erases the Failure Records from the PCM.
NOTE:
The condition that affects this circuit may exist in other connecting branches of the circuit.
