Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. NOTE: If DTC P0335 is set, diagnose DTC P0335 before continuing with this procedure. See DTC P0335: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT .
  3. Install the scan tool. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF. Raise the vehicle. Disconnect the CKP "B" sensor connector. Test the CKP "B" sensor 12-volt reference for the following conditions:
    • An intermittent open.
    • An intermittent short to ground.
    • A poor terminal contact at the CKP "B" sensor.

    If a condition is found, repair the condition as necessary. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step  6. If no, go to next step.

  4. Test the CKP "B" sensor low reference for the following conditions:
    • An intermittent open.
    • A poor connection at the CKP "B" sensor.

    If a condition is found, repair the condition as necessary. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step  6. If no, go to next step.

  5. Test the CKP "B" sensor signal 1 circuit for the following conditions:
    • An intermittent open.
    • An intermittent short to the 12-volt reference or to battery voltage.
    • An intermittent short to ground or to the sensor low reference.
    • Poor connections at CKP "B" sensor.

    If a condition is found, repair the condition as necessary. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step  6. If no, go to next step.

  6. Test the following CKP "B" sensor circuits for poor connections at the PCM:
    • The sensor 12-volt reference circuit.
    • The sensor signal 1 circuit.
    • The sensor low reference circuit.

    If a condition is found, repair the condition as necessary. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .

  7. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  2.
  8. With a scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
