Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
  2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT (L36)  or FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT (L67)  .
  3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to DRIVE BELT TENSIONER REPLACEMENT  .
  4. Remove the right spark plug wires from the right spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS in Engine Performance - Removal and Installation.
  5. Remove the EVAP purge solenoid and the bracket. Refer to EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE in Engine Performance - Removal and Installation.
  6. Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts.
  7. Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket.

  8. Remove the right engine lift bracket bolt and the nut from the engine lift bracket.
  9. Remove the right engine lift bracket from the exhaust manifold.

  10. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    Important:  If the valve rocker arm cover adheres to the cylinder head, remove the valve rocker arm cover by bumping the end of the valve rocker arm cover with the palm of your hand or a soft rubber mallet.

  11. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover.
  12. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover gasket.
  13. Clean the valve rocker arm cover mating surfaces.
  14. Clean the valve rocker arm cover bolts of all thread locking adhesive.
