Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Apply sealant at the rear main bearing cap and the engine block (1).
- Install the oil pan gasket.
- Install the oil pan.
NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
- Install the oil pan bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the left oil pan side bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Use J 39505
in order to install the right oil pan side bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the frame bolts.
- Install the right lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT .
- Install the right outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT - OUTER .
- Install the engine mount bracket with the engine mount to the oil pan. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Use the engine support fixture in order to lower the engine.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to TRANSAXLE MOUNT & BRACKET .
- Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
- Install the transaxle brace to the oil pan. Refer to TRANSAXLE BRACE .
- Install the starter motor. Refer to STARTER MOTOR .
- Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
- Install the 3-way catalytic converter pipe to the right exhaust manifold. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.1L) or CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
- Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.1 L) or COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Install the engine mount struts to the engine. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
- Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
