Removal Procedure

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM .
Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
Lower the vehicle.
Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement - Lower .
Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.1L) or EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
Remove the right spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS .
Remove the fuel line bracket bolt/stud and bracket.
Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR .

Remove the right spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS .
Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (3.1L) or EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (3.8L) .
Remove and discard the right cylinder head bolts.
Remove the right cylinder head.

Remove the right cylinder head gasket.
Clean the following areas:
- The gasket mating surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block, and intake manifolds.
- The cylinder block bolt threads.
- The cylinder head bolts.
Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD CLEANING AND INSPECTION .
