Removal (3.5L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . On Aurora, remove rear seat cushion to access battery. On all models, disconnect negative battery cable. Remove mounting the 2 mounting nuts from the injector sight shield (top engine cover). Lift the injector sight shield off the mounting studs by lifting at the front of the cover.
  2. Clean the fuel rail assembly with a spray type Engine Cleaner (GM X-30A), if necessary. Follow the package instructions. Do not soak the fuel rail in liquid cleaning solvent. Disconnect the fuel feed and return pipes from the fuel rail. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
  3. Remove vacuum line from fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors from each fuel injector. Release the 4 snap-lock tabs on the fuel rail assembly by pushing toward the valve covers and lifting. Remove the fuel rail. Remove the injector lower "O" ring seal from the spray tip end of each injector. Discard the "O" ring seals.
  4. To remove injectors from the fuel rail, remove the fuel injector retainer clip. Remove the fuel injector from the fuel rail. Remove the injector upper "O" ring. Discard the "O" ring seals.
