Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor knock sensor 2 while varying engine speed between idle and fuel cutoff in Park. If knock sensor voltage varies from around 0.25 volt at idle to at least over 1.5 volts at fuel cutoff, go to next step. If knock sensor voltage does not vary from around 0.25 volt at idle to at least over 1.5 volts at fuel cutoff, go to step  3 .
  2. Let engine idle. Disconnect knock sensor 2. Using scan tool, monitor knock sensor 2 voltage. If voltage is 0.2-0.3 volt, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If voltage is not 0.2-0.3 volt, check Light Blue wire and Tan wire between knock sensor and ECM for short to ground. If wires are okay, replace ECM.
  3. Keep engine running at idle. Disconnect knock sensor 2. Using test light, jumper knock sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Light Blue wire) to battery voltage, then jumper terminal No. 2 (Tan wire) to battery voltage while each time using scan tool to monitor knock sensor 2 voltage. If voltage changes from 0.25 volt to over 0.30 volt when each circuit is independently jumpered to battery voltage, check knock sensor connector. If connector is okay, replace knock sensor 2. If voltage does not change from 0.25 volt to over 0.30 volt when each circuit is independently jumpered to battery voltage, check Light Blue wire and Tan wire for open (open in wire that did not change knock sensor 2 voltage when jumped to battery voltage). If wires are okay, replace ECM.
