Diagnostic Aids

If DTC P0102 or P0103 is also set, diagnose that DTC first. See DTC P0102: MAF SENSOR CIRCUIT - LOW SIGNAL/FREQUENCY or DTC P0103: MAF SENSOR CIRCUIT - HIGH SIGNAL/FREQUENCY . DTC P0101 may also set if a circuit fault exists in the MAF sensor circuit.
Ensure MAF reads zero grams/second (near 1.02 volts) with engine off.
Check the following for possible causes of MAF rationality errors:
- Vacuum leaks.
- Air induction tubing cracked or loose.
- Restricted throttle plate or carbon buildup.
- MAF sensor harness connector or reference return circuit (Black Wire) corroded or spread terminals.
- MAF sensor skewed at different engine load ranges. Compare MAF sensor voltage readings on Scan tool with a known-good vehicle under the same operating conditions.
