Diagnostic Procedures

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Allow ECT to drop below 176°F (80°C). Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn A/C button off on console. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor status of DTC P0481. If DTC P0481 has run and failed LAST TEST, go to next step. If DTC P0481 has not run and failed LAST TEST, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Check COOL-LOW fuse (20-amp) in underhood fuse block. Replace and retest if open. Turn ignition off. Replace cooling fan relay 2 with wiper relay or a known good relay. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor status of DTC P0481. If DTC P0481 has run and failed LAST TEST, go to next step. If DTC P0481 has not run and failed LAST TEST, check cooling fan 2 connector. If connector is okay, replace cooling fan relay 2.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector J1. Using DVOM, measure voltage on ECM connector J1 terminal No. 57 (Dark Blue wire). If battery voltage is present, check ECM connectors. If connectors are okay, replace ECM. If battery voltage is not present, repair open or short to ground in Dark Blue wire between ECM and underhood fuse block.
